What is a digital radiography system?
Digital radiography (sometimes shortened to DR) is the name given to a more advanced form of X-ray. While other systems need a cassette during the process, a DR uses a detector that allows it to immediately transfer data to a computer.
What are the benefits?
Aside from the immediate data transfer, DR means that patients spend less time being exposed to potentially harmful X-rays, something that is necessary during the process.
The system also comes with analysis tool and defect recognition software, making it easier to find potential issues that need to be addressed. Furthermore, the detail is easier to detect and the amount of time needed to inspect is shortened because there is no need to chemically process film at any point.
In addition to other benefits, this can also speed up the process of communicating with patients, as it is easier to transfer the images to them electronically.
