If you are like many people, you may think that a deep tissue massage must be painful to work. For those who have avoided this type of physical manipulation because of that, you will be happy to know this isn’t the case. In fact, many people who receive a deep tissue massage in Providence feel more relaxed than when they get any other massage.

What Deep Tissue Massage Is

With a deep tissue massage, your deeper layers of soft tissue and muscle are manipulated. The massage technician who is performing the massage will use direct pressure and warm oils to help relax the top layers of tissue so that the deeper levels can be reached.

Some people choose to get deep tissue massage as a way to help alleviate chronic pain and aches. Recipients of this type of massage may find that it helps relieve neck tension, minimize lower back pain, soothe sore shoulders, and loosen muscles in the arms and legs.

In many cases, the first massage will not penetrate into the deep muscles of the body. The massage technician may need to modify the massage to be sure you are comfortable and able to relax, rather than subconsciously resisting the deep muscle manipulation.

No Need for Pain

Muscles naturally attempt to resist pain. If the muscles in your body believe that an injury is happening, resistance occurs. This can occur when excess pressure is put on your muscles in a deep tissue massage in Providence. This is not what is supposed to happen with the massage. You should expect for your tension to be released and to feel more relaxed after the massage is complete.

There may be some discomfort during a deep massage, which adds to tension. This should be a “good hurt,” which means that while it hurts, it’s pleasurable at the same time. The technician providing the massage should work with you to be sure you are comfortable, and your pain tolerance is not breached during the massage.

Types of Deep Massage

There are dozens of techniques that involve working deep tissue. Some of the most common include my fascial release and neuromuscular therapy. The latter relates to providing balance in the nervous system while the former works on stretching connective tissue coverings.
