nce upon a time, all families would have someone (usually a man) who was recognised as The Head of the Family and, in most matters, his word was law. For better or worse, times change and, today, there is a plethora of laws that govern many aspects of family matters – even the unborn child is now said to have legal rights.
Additionally, the word family used to be exclusively associated with one man married to one woman and their offspring – maybe covering up to four generations but all stemming from the marriage. Nowadays, when couples get together and raise children without having a marriage registered and recognised by law, the term family has become somewhat loose. We even have single parents and same sex marriages that have children; it is no wonder that society at large has empowered Government to enact legislation to standardise and control matters relating to today’s much broader meaning of family and the individual rights, duties and obligations of each and every family member.
It is unlikely that any of us will be able to go through a whole lifetime without needing some level of advice on legal matters regarding our family.
Where to Turn for Advice?
Almost since the invention of Law, solicitors have been our first point of contact with the legal profession and, for most of us, this will be a firm like Family Law in Nuneaton who specialise in family law in all its aspects. It might be a sad reflection on today’s world that many of us will think of divorce or separation disputes as being the meaning of family law but there is much more to the practice of family law.
What can a Family Law Solicitor do for us?
Many facets of family law are, basically, good things. For example, setting up trust funds for the benefit of our children; or making our wills and appointing someone to execute our estate; or ensuring that the house we are buying has all the correct deeds and titles, etc. – these are all good, positive things that should be of benefit to the family. Having a good solicitor for Family Law in Nuneaton will help us maximise these good areas and serve as protection in the event of something serious happening in our family life.
