As the name implies, ventilation exhaust fans are used to control the environment inside a structure. The fan vents out odors, particulates, smoke and moisture which may be found in the sir. These exhaust fans are also found as an integrated component in heating and cooling systems. In the home, these fans are most frequently found in the kitchen and in the bathrooms. Although the kitchen and bath are the most common areas where you will find an exhaust fan, they can be easily installed in any room in the house.

The classic use for a ventilation exhaust fan is in the home, in the kitchen and the bathrooms. Both of these locations often are steamy, steam is moisture and it is moisture that promotes the development and growth of mold. The exhaust fan takes this moisture, along with any odors and vents it outdoors where it disperses harmlessly into the atmosphere. When people are cooking, especially if they are grilling indoors or frying, the exhaust fan is ideal to extract the smoke and cooking odors.

A ventilation exhaust fan is also used to moderate the temperature in the home during the hot months; the fan pushes hot air outside and in the process creates negative pressure in the building. The negative pressure tends to draw outside air in and as the outside air is normally cooler than the inside air, the air transfer promotes cooling in the home. An exhaust fan can be a substitute for or at least a supplement to expensive air conditioning.

Ventilation exhaust fans are often found in workshops and industrial environments. Work areas often harbor odors from process chemicals and it is important that they be vented outdoors, this is for the comfort and safety of those working in the building. Solvents, paint fumes and other chemicals are not good for people and they must be exhausted.

Any enclosed space can accommodate ventilation exhaust fan; it does not have to be confined to either a residence or industrial environment. Large warehouses often get hot and stale, large barns, especially those that are dedicated to raising animals can become very heavy with unpleasant odors that must be vented. Restaurants rely heavily on exhaust fans to pull heat and cooking odors from their commercial kitchens.
