The Marangu Route

This view alone is nothing short of spectacular, and there are comfortable huts along the path where hikers can rest and restore their energy for the long climb ahead. Climbing and hiking poles are a must, but you won’t need them as much if you take this route because it is one of the easiest paths up the mountain. It is not near as steep as the other paths.
The Machame and Umbwe Route
The Machame and the Umbwe routes are much tougher than the Marangu route. They include very steep forest paths, and airy ridges that are hard to go over. There is no accommodation around this area, and all nights must be spent in tents. The Mweka route is normally used on the way back from either the Machame or the Umbwe route. The Machame route is the second most popular route for hikers that attempt to climb Kilimanjaro. It is considered the most beautiful route in Kilimanjaro, with a huge range of vegetation and wildlife roaming in their natural habitat. The Umbwe route is the steepest path up the mountain. It has forested ridges and ice fields, making it a possibility only for the most experienced climbers. You need an early start to conquer this route up the mountain, and a guide is certainly a must.
