Caring for Custom Wrought Iron Doors

Caring for Custom Wrought Iron Doors

Your custom wrought iron doors are absolutely stunning. They are something you can be proud of for many years to come. These doors feature quality materials and construction, and are designed to require minimal maintenance. It’s best to take good care of your doors, to protect your investment. Here are some tips for wrought iron door care, to make door maintenance simple and easy.

The glass on your custom wrought iron doors will need the most attention, as it can easily become dirty or smudged with fingerprints. You may have separate glass doors and this makes cleaning very easy. First, try using a microfiber cloth. In some cases, this may be all you need to remove smudges.  Microfiber products work well because they do not leave any fibers behind on the glass.

If your glass needs additional cleaning, you can use a household glass cleaning product. Spray it on the cleaning cloth and rub the glass surface. If you wish to use an environmentally friendly cleaner, try vinegar.

When using a pressure washer on the house, refrain from spraying the glass on your custom wrought iron doors. This may cause a problem with the doors’ ability to seal. Also, high pressure washing may not be good for your door finish.

High quality wrought iron doors are sealed properly and this makes them very easy to clean. All you need to use is mild soap and water. This should remove most of the dirt or grime which accumulates on doors over time. There is no need to use industrial cleaners. In fact, they can damage the finish on some custom wrought iron doors.

Make a soapy water mixture using warm water and dish soap. Softly rub a soapy cloth over the surface. Rinse out the cloth with clear water and use it to remove the soap film. Using a soft cloth, gently rub the door surface until it is dry.

When you clean your doors, do not resort to scrubbers or anything with abrasive properties. This may scratch the finish and could void your warranty. Once the finish is scratched it’s much easier for rust or corrosion to form on your doors.

Enjoy the Beauty

Your custom wrought iron doors are made to fit perfectly and perform flawlessly. Clean the glass whenever it needs it, and try to clean the doors once a month or so. Regular cleanings will help to eliminate buildup of dirt and other materials. Don’t forget to grease the hinges once or twice a year, and make sure to rub off any excess grease from the grease fittings on the hinges.
