Homeowners who live in cooler northern climates often rely on individual air conditioning units rather than central ac units because the summers are short and cooler than those in the south. However, there are advantages to having a central ac unit, even in climates that have cooler temperatures. The option to choose individual units is sometimes monetary, but other times people choose individual units because it’s what they’ve become accustomed to over the years.

Cool Your Entire Home

An individual unit only cools a small space within a home. That’s why some homes have units in the living room, the kitchen, and each bedroom. While these units may seem convenient, many homeowners become frustrated when a unit fails to cool a room completely or someone forgets to put the unit on the in bedroom at night to cool the room down for sleeping. Running a bunch of units simultaneously can also run up an electric bill, and relying on children to shut a unit off when not in use means you’ll be paying a lot of extra money for cooling an empty room.

With central ac units, you cool your entire home without needing to shut off and on an individual unit. You don’t have to worry about cooling the bedroom down before going to sleep, and your kids won’t unnecessarily run up your electric bill by leaving the ac unit running in an empty room. In fact, you can turn the temperature up when you’re not home so that the air only kicks on if your home reaches above the temperature you set.

Reduce Noise

Individual units can get noisy. Older units and purchasing pre-owned units are the noisiest because they don’t have the technology to reduce noise like the newer models. It can be difficult to hear conversation, watch television, or listen to the radio, when a noisy ac unit is running in a room. Central ac units reduce the noise disruption, with only a slight sound when kicking on which you probably won’t hear unless your home is pretty quiet. While it may seem like a big investment for central air, converting your home from individual units to a central system can save you money and frustration.
